Our Mission
To bring more connection and peace to the experience of living and dying in Western New York.
We invite community members to gather in person - well before they are facing a health crisis or terminal diagnosis - to get real about this important topic that most would prefer to avoid.
We share resources, encourage conversations, and practice story listening so that - when our time comes - each of us is more prepared to live that time in a way that is aligned with our own values.
Who we are
A Storied Life grew out of Founding Director Amber Sastry’s volunteer work with pediatric and adult hospice and palliative care programs in Ghana, Australia, and the United States. The idea for the organization was formed while she was biking against a furious wind along the Port Phillip Bay in Melbourne, Australia during the 2020 pandemic when she committed to do something to bring more connection and comfort to the experience of dying and death for the one who is transitioning from this life, their loved ones, and their care providers.
Amber has a Master of Public Policy from UCLA and a B.A. in Psychology from the University at Buffalo. Her professional experience spans over 25 years in global health medical research, community programs, public policy, and funding partnerships around the world.
